Bradenton

Beautiful Florida homes on Bradenton

If you are a lover of fine culture and history, a sports fanatic, and/or a nature nut, Bradenton is the place for you! Situated on the mainland between Sarasota and Tampa, Bradenton offers over 20 miles of beaches for fishing, swimming, meditating, and shelling. It is surrounded by salt and fresh waterways, from the Gulf of Mexico and Tampa Bay, to the mouth of the beautiful Manatee River in the north.

In 1539 Bradenton was "discovered" by Hernando DeSoto. The area was eventually named for Dr. Joseph Braden, a sugar magnate. Bradenton became a city in 1943.

Today, Bradenton offers a beautiful melding of all that can make people happy and fulfilled. Catch a show at the award winning Riverfront Theater and visit the exhibits and programs offered by the South Florida Museum. Visit the Bishop Planetarium. The Parker/Manatee Aquarium is a "must see" for a special visit with Snooty, the oldest captive-born manatee. Born in 1948, Snooty shares his aquarium with younger manatees being rehabilitated for return to the wild.

The Village of the Arts is a unique, eclectic blend of talented artists, living and working in their homes. Over the years, about fifty dilapidated houses were converted into studios, galleries, small restaurants, and shops. The Village is the largest arts district along the Gulf Coast and earned Bradenton recognition by Art Calendar magazine as one of the top 10 cities in the country for working artists.

Bradenton is also home to 1200 year old temple mounds at Emerson Point, an island at the mouth of the Manatee River. Between 800 AD and 1500 AD, Native Americans constructed a building on top of a shell mound, ritually burned it, then covered the remains with earth, then another layer of shell. Other buildings would be subsequently constructed, burned, and buried. This site can be visited while at the 195 acre state-owned park. The park is on 15 miles of shoreline and is a wonderland of natural Florida.

Bradenton is home to over 25 world-class golf courses, the Tennis Academy (IMG), the US National Soccer Academy, and the Pittsburg Pirates spring training facilities.
